The Asian dowitcher is a medium-large wader of the sandpiper family. Adults have dark legs and a long, straight dark bill, somewhat shorter than that of the long-billed dowitcher. In breeding plumage the body is brown on top and reddish underneath, and the tail is barred black and white; in winter it is largely grey (Wikipedia, general species account).
Its breeding habitat is grassy wetlands in inland Siberia and Manchuria, and it migrates to Southeast Asia as far south as northern Australia, though both breeding and wintering areas are poorly known. It is always found on coasts during migration and wintering, foraging by probing in shallow water or on wet mud (Wikipedia, general species account).
