The painted terrapin is a large estuarine turtle whose breeding males develop a white head crossed by a red stripe. It uses mangroves and tidal rivers in the Sundaic region and feeds mainly on fruit and vegetation. Females leave the water to nest on sandy sea beaches or riverbanks, making intact links between rivers and nesting areas essential (Wikipedia, general species account). It is Nationally Critically Endangered (Thailand Red Data 2025).
