The impressed tortoise has a flattened golden-brown shell whose scutes appear indented or impressed. It inhabits cool, moist montane evergreen and bamboo forest in southern China and mainland Southeast Asia, often on steep slopes. Its diet includes fungi and plant material, and its secretive habits and remote habitat mean much of its ecology remains poorly documented (Wikipedia, general species account). It is Nationally Endangered (Thailand Red Data 2025).
