The Chinese francolin is a boldly patterned terrestrial gamebird. Males have a black-and-white face, rufous collar and spotted underparts; females are browner and more cryptic. It inhabits open woodland, scrub and grassland from southern China through mainland Southeast Asia. Birds feed on seeds, shoots and insects on the ground, and males advertise with a loud repeated territorial call (Wikipedia, general species account). It is Nationally Data Deficient (Thailand Red Data 2025).
