The black-bellied malkoha is a slender Sundaic cuckoo with a red bill, grey head, chestnut wings, black belly and a long dark tail tipped white. It inhabits lowland rainforest on the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo. Usually found singly or in pairs, it moves through tangled vegetation and canopy foliage for insects. Unlike brood-parasitic cuckoos, malkohas construct nests and rear their own chicks (Wikipedia, general species account). It is Nationally Near Threatened (Thailand Red Data 2025).
